Our Learning Journey to the Singapore Botanic Gardens (written by Shawn Goh)

We went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 26 April. We went to the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden. Mrs Tay took us to the Tree House. We had to cross a suspension bridge to get there. The bridge swung as we walked on it but I could keep my balance easily. We climbed the tree house and slid down on the slide. It was fun!

Next, we looked for the hundred-year-old tree. It had no leaves. All that was left was a huge trunk. It was struck by lightning in 2002. It made me feel sad.

After that, we took turns to step onto the Floating Platform. I loved standing on it. Then we looked at the different aquatic plants. I touched the water lettuce leaves and found that the leaves have a waxy surface so water will roll off the surface, preventing the plant from sinking.

After spending some time at the pond, we went to the Magic of Photosynthesis. We turned the crank to make a mist appear. Then we went to the A-Mazing-Play. It was a maze made of plants. It was easy making our way out again as we just re-traced our route.

After that, we went to the Sensory Garden. We smelled different types of plants, such as the lemon grass and pandan wangi. There was also a plant with leaves that have a hairy texture. However, we couldn't find out its name. Mrs Tay took a picture of me smelling the rose cactus.

I enjoyed my learning journey very much.

My March Holidays (written by Zhi Yi)

I spent most of the time during my March holidays playing. I played board games and electronic games. I spent about twenty to thirty minutes every day studying or doing homework.
The three books I read are 'Don't Go into the Cellar', 'The Screaming Mummy in the Pharoah's Tomb II" and "The Time Machine".
What I enjoyed most was spending time with my friend, Marcus.
On Monday, I stayed at home and had fun. I also studied.
On Tuesday, I went to my grandmother's house. Then we went to 'Plaza Singapura'. I had breakfast at 'Yoshihoya'. I ordered beef congee and my mother had chicken noodles. The man at the counter made a mistake and gave us chicken congee and beef noodles. My mother and I swapped the chicken and beef.
On Wednesday, I went to Sentosa and had lots of fun. As it was raining, we could not set up the tent.
On Thursday and Friday, I stayed at home.
On Saturday, I made some new friends. I also downloaded some games.
On Sunday, I went to church and downloaded some more games. My father took away my electronic game because he said that I was becoming addicted to it.

How I Spent My March Holidays (written by See Jun Loong)

During the March holidays, I spent most of the time playing and reading. Every day, I spent two hours studying or doing homework. I revised the words for my spelling test every day.
The three books I read are 'Tom and Jerry', 'Mr Midnight' and 'Nemo'. What I enjoyed most was playing computer games. I read our class bog and what Mrs Tay wrote. Then I clicked on the weblink to play the multiplication games. I also challenged my cousin in an online game.
I went to stay with my cousin too. We stayed up late to play card games. The next morning, we had breakfast at Bukit Panjang. I enjoyed my stay with my cousin very much.

A Book Review (written by Leona Wu)

My favourite book is ‘Stella the Star Fairy’. The author of the book is Daisy Meadows. The story is about how Stella, the fairy, together with her friends, Kirsty and Rachel, keeps Christmas bright and shiny.
The three face a problem. The nasty Goblins have stolen the Christmas tree decorations to ruin the Christmas season for everyone. Stella and her friends must get back the decorations before it is too late.
My favourite character in the book is Stella. She is kind, helpful and beautiful. I find the book interesting and I hope you will too.

Perseverance (by Cheryl Lim)

My parents, teachers and principal, Mr Chia, always encourage me to persevere in what I do. My father tells me my results are horrible and tries his best to help me. My parents tell me to persevere so that, one day, I can be a useful citizen in Singapore.

When I play the piano, I always face difficulties. I really wanted to give up but when I heard Mr Chia announcing that the school is getting a piano for the stage, I was excited. I wish I could perform but my classmates, Zhi Yi and Vanessa, can play the piano very well. If I practise very hard, perhaps my teacher will choose me to perform on stage.

Perseverance (by Katrina Palermo Silawan)

(written on 27 February)

Perseverance is the ability to bear difficulties calmly and without complaint. It means we have to work hard in order to achieve our dreams.

My parents always tell me that if I am not patient in the little things in life, success will not come my way. So, never expect things to happen. Struggle and make them happen!

In my case, I have persevered in many ways since I arrived here in Singapore last May. I gave up some of my T.V. time to spend hours studying hard and helping my mum in the household chores. Being in a new place takes a lot of adjustment. My life here is totally different. I made a lot of sacrifices. I have to make new friends and cope with the new educational system, adjust to the new culture and the English Language (my mum is helping me write this), etc. I know it's not easy but when you are determined to achieve your goal, things will work out right.

Perseverance is the virtue we have to cultivate in our hearts. Without it, no one's dream will come true.

Total Defence Day (by Victor Ooi)

(written on 15 February)

Today is Total Defence Day. During our English lesson, the fire alarm rang and everyone assembled at the parade area. It took us only two and a half minutes to assemble there. After that, we watched how Uncle Joseph used the fire extinguisher to put out the fire. After recess, Miss Lim talked to us about Total Defence Day and we also watched a video clip of Phua Chu Kang. The title is 'There is a Part for Everyone'.

At 12.05 p.m., we heard a siren. When we hear the siren, we must switch on our radio because there is an important message coming up.

Chinese New Year Celebration (by Timothy Pan)

(written on 6 February)

It is Chinese New Year on 7 February but we celebrated it in school on 6 February. First, a few girls from the Dance Club performed a song and dance item. Then there was a game. Some pupils' grandparents fed their grandchildren with mandarin oranges. After the game, there was a lion dance. The drums were very loud but I liked it.

My First Rainbow Day (by Vanessa Tan)

(written on 29 January)

I was very happy to be one of the emcees on our first Rainbow Day. I used to have stage fright but after the programme, I don't have stage fright anymore! I learnt that I have to speak more loudly.

My classmates, Kate and Katrina, sang a song entitled 'A Whole New World'. I want to perform again on the next Rainbow Day. I want to perform a rap. I know I can do it well.

My First Performance (by Katrina Palermo Silawan)

(written on 29 Jan)

The first Rainbow Day in my school was really memorable because it was the first time that I performed in front of a crowd. My heart was beating so fast but I didn't mind it. I just focused on my song entitled 'A Whole New World'. I am grateful to my teacher because she gave me the chance to be part of the programme. It developed my self-confidence and gave me the chance to show my talent.

It was nice to see my schoolmates performing on stage, even the teachers. It was like a variety show by the different classes. I enjoyed watching the item 'I Liked to Move It' which I also joined in. The first Rainbow Day was truly an unforgettable experience for me.

Our First Rainbow Day (by Chia Zhi Yi)

(written on 28 Jan)

Our first Rainbow Day fell on 25 January. On Rainbow Day, every child will get a chance to perform on stage. There are four Rainbow Days, one in each term.

On our first Rainbow Day, our class 3A performed the song 'Do Re Mi'. The item I liked the most was 'I Liked to Move it' by 2A. Two of my friends performed again. They sang a song 'A Whole New World'. Their song was nice. I liked it although one of them forgot her lyrics. I enjoyed our first Rainbow Day.
