Here are some sums to challenge the Star Group, but all are welcome to try out the sums.
(1) In a double-decked bus, there are 25 more people in the lower deck than in the upper deck. 11 people move up from the lower deck to the upper deck. How many more people are in the lower deck now?
(2) In a classroom, the desks are organised in equal rows. Tom sits at the desk that is fourth from the front and third from the back. There are four desks on the right but only one to the left of Tom's desk. How many desks are there in the room?
(3) There were peach trees and plum trees in a garden. For every 8 ripe peaches that Jane picked, she picked 5 ripe plums. When the trees were bare, she had 64 peaches. How many pieces of fruit did she pick altogether?
(4) Jack jogs 5 blocks on the first day of training. Each day, he increases his distance by another 3 blocks. On the last day, he jogged 35 blocks. For how many days did he jog?
(5) Mr Tan took his wife and three young children to watch a concert. The tickets cost $63 in all. An adult ticket cost $4 more than a ticket for a child. How much did each type of ticket cost?
You can post your working and answers in the comments.
